AE86 prices are really quite silly. I'd much rather get a Nissan S12 Silvia/200SX, which is a very similar car dimension- and looks-wise except with IRS (although not on the very first year model IIRC) and trim levels that offered either a turbo 4-banger or V6... And there's not Initial D tax on it so it's not that expensive.

Sounds like someone imported one in the winter and held onto it to try and sell in the hotter-selling summer months.
Also known as what I'd like to start doing with R32 Skylines in 2014.

Very true indeed, however, the RHD, combined with ridiculous 80's toyota styling is just too much fun! I would however prefer the hatchback version, so I will end up holding out... its just that this one is so close to me I could ride my bicycle to go get it.

I totally forgot the floodgates open next year. I cannot wait for that either... I would have no problem owning a 25 year old Nissan, toyota, or Honda. I have been doing alot of digging lately on 25year old imports just waiting for the right one to pop up

You mean R34? There is an R32 in my neighborhood with tags.

One of two situations there:
1. Imported under Show-and-Display. Mileage exemptions, lots of paperwork, and you can't really just drive it to drive it; have to be en route to/from a car show or something of the sort while driving it.
2. It's in a legal grey area. There are several Skylines that are in the country and tagged/registered under state laws that are in violation of US Customs/NHTSA statutes. You can have it and drive it and the state won't care, but if the Feds find out then you're in bad shape
2014 will be the first year in which you can legally import, under federal statute, without restrictions, a 1989 R32 Skyline.
